Ahd e Alast by Sumaika Yousaf:
It is impossible to summarize the novel “Ahd-e-Sitt” in just a few lines. This sensitive story revolves around Akasha, the central character, who embodies resilience and patience in today’s harsh society. Akasha is a figure who teaches a girl to maintain steadfastness, patience, and to develop a strong relationship with Allah. Whenever faced with difficulties, she relies on patience and turns to Allah, constantly striving for perfection in her relationships and battling for her survival with patience.
The novel contrasts Akasha with the negative and harsh characters of Kulsoom, Saleem, and Maira, who represent the insensitivity of society. They cross all boundaries to fulfill their greed and desires, reflecting the moral decay of contemporary society where they exploit others for personal gain. This portrayal also highlights the status of parents in society, their struggles, and the societal attitudes towards a daughter, showcasing the helplessness of parents and societal perceptions.
The second central character, Khazim Shah, is not entirely perfect, but his flaws and virtues shape him into a well-rounded character. He is depicted as someone who brings his love into a lawful relationship and learns to love Allah through his wife. Khazim Shah strives to be a perfect husband, making Akasha feel special through his words and efforts. Additionally, the importance and love of sibling relationships are illustrated through the character of Ayesha.
